Theater 190: The Fall and A Cup of Jo

Synopsis

THE FALL: High on the last branch of an oak tree, two aging leaves cling to one another on the last day of autumn. As others have already fallen, they reflect on warmth, beauty, and the terrifying mystery of what comes next. Their quiet conversation becomes a meditation on life, love, and loss.

A CUP OF JO: A waitress at a diner is fascinated by a handsome and alluring nightly customer named Vlad.

Leona Lovemoor is a multidisciplinary artist. It is a poet, singer, writer, and actor. Leona has starred as Kate in Monterey Peninsula College's production of Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew and as Kate in Magic Circle Theatre's production of David Lindsay-Abaire's Good People, as well as other starring and ensemble roles in community musical theatre. Leona has written, bound, and distributed a book of poetry and puzzles titled Puzzle Pieces of the Heart. It has also written and produced HERstory, a poetic play exploring the perspective of women across time.

Ms. Lovemoor is based in Altadena, CA, and is excited to continue creating and sharing its creations.

Bernadette Armstrong moved to Los Angeles to work in film in the late 1990’s and after her first two films went to festivals she took a short hiatus from writing until she fell in love with small theater. Since 2008 she has had several successful theater projects produced in No Hollywood. Her play The Reading Group was named Pick of the Week by LA Weekly Magazine and in 2017 her play Simple Lives was nominated for Outstanding Writing of an Original Play or Musical by the Valley Theater Awards (the only woman nominated).

Peter Bonoff as Vlad

Peter Bonoff is an actor and musician from Portland, Oregon. He received his B.F.A. in Acting from California Institute of the Arts (Calarts). He made his onscreen debut in the feature film adaptation of William Faulkner's classic novel The Sound and the Fury, directed by James Franco. Recently, he starred in the pilot episode of the upcoming series Influence, written and directed by Max Del Rio and Matt Reesing. He was last seen onstage playing Claudio in Measure for Measure at the New American Theatre. He is currently based in Los Angeles.

Camille Ameen as Leaf #1

Camille has acted on Broadway, off-Broadway & major regional theatres.  Most recently, she appeared in Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders and Gilmore Girls.  Other  TV shows include ER, L.A. Law, Newhart, Roseanne, and Kate & Allie.  She had the pleasure of performing in Othello, starring James Earl Jones and Christopher Plummer, Garland Wright's K-Impressions of Kafka's The Trial with Kathy Bates, Awake and Sing opposite Nancy Marchand, Miss Julie & The Stronger with Rip Torn and Geraldine Page, Pirandello's Chee-Chee with Actors Theatre of Louisville, and 2 productions each of A Streetcar Named Desire and The Three Sisters. She co-founded a theatre-based non-profit for underserved middle schoolers, which became so successful (she went to the White House to accept an award for the organization) that she had to let go of other passions.  Now, she's thrilled to be acting again with Open-Door Playhouse.  She's extremely grateful for the opportunities she's received.

Gloria Tsai as Leaf #2

Gloria Tsai is a Taiwanese-Texan actor/voice actor originally from Houston & Austin. After leaving a corporate career in 2015, she decided to pursue her childhood passion for performing. In the Fall of 2019, Gloria was cast in “The Joy Luck Club” at Sierra Madre Playhouse (SMP), directed with LA Arts Commissioner & former East-West Players Artistic Director, Tim Dang. She returned to SMP for a virtual production of “Yellow Face” by D.H. Hwang (July 2020) and in a production of "Silent Sky" by Lauren Gunderson (Fall 2022). In the Fall of 2025, Gloria was in an ensemble cast of an original production: "Achilles in Arcadia" by Chris Collins at Skylight Theatre. Gloria began her voiceover career in 2020 and has voiced audiobooks, e-learning videos and more, including many audio plays here on Open Door Playhouse.
