Theater 166: PENNY SLOTS PART 4: Ladies visit to Vero Beach, VA Hospital
Synopsis
This is the fourth in a series of audio comedies featuring the Penny Slots, a trio of mature ladies who somehow find themselves doing heroic deeds and saving the day when thrown into dangerous adventures.
The three superheroines are back by popular demand.
In Theatre 80, Part Three; Ladies Fly Home To Vero Beach, Penny Slots Ladies, Kay, Marie and Helen handed in “their wings” after saving their plane from crashing when the pilot fell unconscious from narcolepsy, therefore retiring from the duty of saving lives and returning to live their calm lives in their hometown of Vero Beach, Florida, until...... Kay’s husband Bill winds up in the VA hospital after a very freak “accident”. All ladies are visiting in Bill’s hospital room when a catastrophic “event” occurs to cause the women to jump back into action and put on their heroine costumes one more time. Are they successful this time? Will they land on the front page of the Florida Herald and make the national news? Writer/Director
Kim Hlavac (Playwright/Director) is an actor from New York who graduated from the infamous High School of Performing Arts, from which the movie FAME was created. Kim received her BFA in theatre arts and film from SUNY/Purchase under the tutelage of George Morrison. Other influential acting mentors include Uta Hagen and Wynn Handman. Kim has performed in various plays in New York, TV & commercials.
When Covid put the world on hold, Kim took up writing and put her creativity onto paper. She is so excited to debut her first script and directing skills on Bernadette’s amazing Open-Door Playhouse podcast, with talented actors she met over Station House and VS Theaters’ Zoom readings. Kim has been a proud member of Actors Equity Association and SAG-AFTRA since 1982.

Goreti da Silva (As Helen)
Since moving to Los Angeles from Canada, Goreti da Silva has worked in many films, tv programs, theatre, and improv shows. Most recently, you may have seen her on Big Little Lies, a Toyota commercial, or heard her voice in one of many radio plays on Opendoorplayhouse.org.
Goreti was awarded The Michael Grossman Most Inspirational Award for her body of theatre work in the Desert; and she won the Valley Theatre Award for her work in “Park Plays: Portland”.
When not performing, Goreti fills her "well" by teaching Improv, Theatre Arts, Playwriting, and Acting to underserved youth who write plays in which they later perform. Though Goreti has produced and directed dozens of plays, she continues to be surprised, delighted and inspired by our next generation of leaders.

Marla Cotovsky as (As Marie)
Marla Cotovsky, a Chicagoan, has called Los Angeles her home since 1980. A graduate of UW-Madison, Marla headed West with a double degree, - Comm Arts: Radio, TV & Film production, and Spanish. Marla did not pick acting, it picked her. The Attic Theatre, The Open Fist Theatre, Theatre Geo, Theatre Neo, Skypilot Theatre, and Tuesdays with VS Theatre and Thursdays at Station House have kept, and are keeping Marla busy acting, writing, and directing. After 15 plus years of retired from acting to play some hardcore tennis, Marla hung up her racket and decided to throw her hat in the VO acting ring and started working out with fellow actors to see if she would still like the craft and if it might still like her. Apparently, the answer is yes. Marla is a proud member of SAG-AFTRA and is available to play! Vamonos!!! Let’s Go!

Googy Gress as Bill
Googy has been an actor since he played Santa Claus in his first grade Christmas Pageant. He has finally grown into his role. He graduated from USC with a BFA degree and studied with Warren Robertson. Some of his films include The Flamingo Kid, Apollo 13 and has worked steadily in LA from the mid 80’s. Googy is married to actress, writer Clarinda Ross and has three children.

Brad David Reed as Archie
Brad David Reed (as Archie) is thrilled to be working with Open-Door Playhouse. He has been acting professionally on stage, screen and radio for over three decades, working in Los Angeles, Chicago, and in his hometown of Boston.
Some of his favorite Films & TV projects include WTF Dad!, Madlane, Crowned and Adventures In The C-League. He has worked with numerous theaters, including The American Repertory Theatre, Skylight Theatre, The Mercury, Famous Door Theatre, Sierra Madre Playhouse, and for five years he was the Artistic Director of Buzzworks Theater. Brad is a proud member of SAG-AFTRA and Equity.
